An App for Everyone (Today's Workshop)

Our class, An App for Everyone, is today!

What that means (if you have forgotten) is that a pair of teachers will sit together for approximately 5 minutes and each person has about 2 1/2 minutes to share a particular iPad app they like and use with their students, and at the end of the 5 minutes, you'll switch seats to learn about a new app (speed dating style).

We'll chart all the recommendations made and put together a list of "the best of the best" apps shared.

Details:
Where: Dothan Brook Library
When: Today 2/11/13 @ 3:30

So if you've been feeling like you need more apps in your life, come join us!

@THISISVT

One of my favorite Twitter feeds is @THISISVT.  Each week a new Vermonter takes the reigns and tweets out what is happening from their perspective in Vermont.  I love checking in on Monday morning to see who is going to be tweeting this week.   Following this feed is great way to find out about local food, services, schools, basically anything of interest that is happening in Vermont.  For teachers, this is a great way to engage your students in what is happening around the state in real time.  Or even better, nominate your class or students to tweet for @THISISVT.

So check it out this week as Meg Allison, a teacher librarian and tech specialist starts her week tweeting for @THISISVT.

This Twitter handle was set up by the State of Vermont Tourism Department.

Templates in Google Drive

In your Google Drive you have access to templates that others have created, and you can share templates that you have created.

Great uses for us at HSD:
1) Create a template for a team daily schedule.  Upload it to the HSD Template gallery and now anyone that wants can use it.
2) Have a standard field trip form?  Share it to the gallery for everyone to use.
3) Create a form for students to use when taking notes and/or keeping track of their sources.
4) Better yet, have students create templates that they find helpful.

The list can go on and on.  Check out some of the public templates too.

Some of my favorites:
1) Historical Facebook Lesson

2) Essay Grading Rubric
3) Student Report

How to find the Template Gallery:
1) Go to Google Drive
2) Click on Create>From Template

4) View and use HSD and public templates

How to submit a template to the Template Gallery
1) Create your document in Google Docs, Spreadsheets, Forms, etc.
2) In your drive, select the document>click more>submit to template gallery

Interested in Code Camp at UVM this Summer?

The Tarrant Institute is interested in putting together a programming camp for students and teachers this summer in Vermont. We're still in the planning stages, and we'd like your input on what courses to make available. If you get a chance, please take our short survey and tell us what you and your students are interested in learning this summer: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/8XWTZCB
