Career Day at DBS

Career Day has come to DBS.  Rebecca Lallier and countless others have organized a day where students are engaged in learning more about different careers from experts in their field.  The students have spent the last few weeks exploring a variety of careers by watching videos, learning about education needed for different careers, and now they have the opportunity to interview community members about their experiences in careers that they are interested in exploring.

Some DBS students interviewing community members about their careers:

The 4th grade at OQS has created a daily news feature.  Students are asked to read news articles and put together a short segment where they recap what they read.  If you're interested in hearing what our students are reading about, subscribe to their playlist to stay on top of their news.

A Paperless Future? Not Quite...

While the message of this video is that we can't do everything digitally, it does highlight ways we can continue to shift our thinking about using digital tools like electronic note taking and using a tablet to create art.

iMotion HD Videos

I was lucky enough to work with some 4th graders this week on their iMotionHD videos about different weather topics. The students worked to research their topic, storyboard how they were going to explain their topic, and then learned how to use the app iMotion HD to create stop motion animation videos. Check out some of their final products below.

Collaborative Writing in Google Docs

A Pep Talk from #kidpresident

I don't know about you, but I find March dreary and a little dull.  I just saw this video titled, Kid President: I think we all need a pep talk, and I think it's the perfect antidote for the dull days of March.  This video, besides being cute and hilarious, shows the enthusiasm and possibilities that kids imagine, and that they encourage us to believe in.  So, as Kid President (Robby Novak) would say, "Create something that will make the world Awesome!"
